body

BACKGROUND:

The School Resource Officer (SRO) Program is established for the purposes set forth in Section 230.2318, Florida Statutes, including assisting in the prevention of juvenile delinquency through programs specifically developed to respond to those factors and conditions that give rise to delinquency. The City Commission previously approved an Employment Agreement for Part-time School Resource Officers on July 14, 2016, with the passage of Resolution No. 2016-157, which is attached for your reference.

DISCUSSION:

The City is committed to protecting and serving its residents. The SRO Program is a great benefit to school administration, students, and the community as a whole. In order to remain competitive in hiring and retaining excellent SROs, the proposed Employment Agreement has been revised to increase paid time off by one day per school year and to add an annual bonus.

Staff recommends approval of this Resolution.
