A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY MANAGER, OR DESIGNEE, TO EXERCISE THE TWO (2) ONE-YEAR RENEWAL OPTIONS PROVIDED IN ARTICLE 11, SECTION 11.1 OF THE INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT WITH THE CITY OF MARGATE, DATED OCTOBER 1, 2016, PROVIDING FOR THE DELIVERY OF EMERGENCY MEDICAL AND FIRE PROTECTION SERVICES.

body

BACKGROUND:

The City of Coconut Creek has had contractual agreements with the City of Margate for the provision of emergency medical (EMS) and fire protection services to the City of Coconut Creek since 1999.  The 2016 Interlocal Agreement (“Agreement”) with the City of Margate (Exhibit “A”) provides for a three-year term, with two (2) one-year renewal options and provisions for annual financial negotiations.  The City amended the Agreement via Amendment No. 1 on September 13, 2017 (Exhibit “B”), and Amendment No. 2 on September 27, 2018 (Exhibit “C”).

DISCUSSION:

Both cities desire to extend the Interlocal Agreement providing for the delivery of EMS and fire protection services for two (2) years. The term of this renewal will be from October 1, 2019, through September 30, 2021. This will allow additional time to continue exploring a regional fire service that would benefit the residents of Coconut Creek. Staff will renegotiate the financial section prior to August 1 of each year, as agreed upon in the agreement.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this resolution.
