BACKGROUND:
The City is responsible for maintaining approximately seven miles of canal and lake banks Citywide (26,290 linear feet of canal bank and 9,335 linear feet of lake bank). The erosion of soil along the banks into the water affects real estate, is unsightly, creates unsafe drop-offs, and can compromise nearby infrastructure. To address these challenges effectively, a comprehensive engineering analysis is required. This analysis will evaluate the conditions of both City-owned banks and non-City-owned banks adjacent to City infrastructure, which will serve as the foundation for planning and cost estimation for a restoration and rehabilitation program.
DISCUSSION:
The City is committed to ensuring continuity of use, maintaining regulatory compliance, and protecting the safety of both residential and business customers. The restoration master plan is essential to providing safe and reliable canal and lake banks, while also protecting critical City infrastructure from potential damage.
The scope of services for this project includes a comprehensive assessment of the current conditions of City-owned canal and lake banks, as well as non-City-owned banks that are adjacent to City infrastructure. Based on this assessment, a long-term capital improvement plan will be developed. Additionally, the project includes detailed restoration plans for the first phase, specifically addressing the canal bank at the southeast corner of Cougar Trail and Lyons Road, which is owned by Coconut Creek High School/Broward County School Board.
