A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE THE INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT WITH BROWARD COUNTY FOR THE SURTAX-FUNDED MUNICIPAL TRANSPORTATION PROJECT: ADA ACCESSIBLE BUS PADS, SURTAX PROJECT NUMBER COCO-024.
body
BACKGROUND:
There are one hundred sixty-four (164) designated bus stops within the City of Coconut Creek. Broward County and the State of Florida are responsible for seventy-nine (79) of these stops, and the City is responsible for the remaining eighty-five (85) stops. The City-maintained bus stops are located on City roads and are utilized by the City’s Community Bus Program. Approximately sixty-five (65) of these City-maintained bus stops have been determined to be out of compliance with current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. Engineer design services are necessary to create construction-ready plans for these proposed ADA improvements. On November 6, 2018, Broward County voters approved the Transportation Surtax Ballot Measure, which levies a one percent (1%) surtax for 30 years to fund transportation projects throughout Broward County, such as the City’s ADA Accessible Bus Pads Design project. Award for these design services is pending receipt of the Broward County Transportation Surtax funding.
DISCUSSION:
In 2018, the City of Coconut Creek approved and executed an Interlocal Agreement (ILA) with Broward County to participate in the Transportation System Surtax. In 2020, the ADA Accessible Bus Pad Design project was approved for funding in Cycle 1 of the Transportation System Surtax program. This Interlocal Agreement provides $432,000 in funding administered by Broward County from said surtax program.
