A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT WITH BROWARD COUNTY SUPERVISOR OF ELECTIONS FOR HIRING, TRAINING, ASSISTING, AND PAYING POLLWORKERS AND POLL DEPUTIES AS WELL AS FOR THE DELIVERY AND PICK-UP OF ELECTION EQUIPMENT FOR THE MARCH 10, 2015 MUNICIPAL ELECTION.

body
BACKGROUND:
The proposed Agreement is presented in preparation for the forthcoming stand-alone Municipal Election to be held on March 10, 2015, for the Commission seat in Districts E. Through this Agreement, the Broward County Supervisor of Elections Office will use its database and resources to hire, train, place and pay pollworkers, VSTs (Voting Service Technicians) and poll deputies on behalf of the City for the March election. The agreement also covers the delivery and pick-up of election equipment from privately owned polling places.
DISCUSSION:
The hiring, training, assisting, and payment of pollworkers is an efficient and beneficial service provided by the Broward County Supervisor of Elections Office for Broward Municipalities whose elections are held in March.
This is a standardized agreement for services that the city has entered into in previous elections years. However, in past years, the agreement did not include the payment of pollworkers and poll deputies, or the delivery and pick-up of voter equipment from privately owned polling places as it does this year. These are two new services the Broward County Supervisor of Elections Office is providing to the cities with stand-alone elections.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of the agreement.
