AGENDA ITEM REPORT

TITLE:

title

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR DESIGNEE, TO RENEW THE ATTACHED MUTUAL AID AGREEMENT FOR THE CONTINUED VOLUNTARY COOPERATION BETWEEN THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF LAW ENFORCEMENT AND PARTICIPATING AGENCIES OF THE MIAMI REGIONAL OPERATIONS CENTER CHILD ABDUCTION RESPONSE TEAM (CART).

body

BACKGROUND:

The “Florida Mutual Aid Act,” contained in Part I, Chapter 23, of the Florida Statutes, permits law enforcement agencies to provide voluntary cooperation and assistance of a routine law enforcement nature across jurisdictional boundaries by entering into a mutual aid agreement.

The Miami Regional Operations Center Child Abduction Response Team (CART) aims to provide a pool of specialized investigators from different agencies to focus and dedicate intensive investigative, preventative, and general law enforcement efforts with regard to abducted children. The City of Coconut Creek has been a participating agency of CART on an ongoing basis, which participation was most recently renewed on May 25, 2023, by Resolution No. 2023-088. The current mutual aid agreement is set to expire on December 31, 2025.

DISCUSSION:

The City is committed to protecting its residents and ensuring public safety. By renewing this mutual aid agreement, the Coconut Creek Police Department can continue its participation on CART necessary to receive and extend mutual aid in the form of law enforcement services and resources to adequately respond to multi-jurisdictional criminal activity. This agreement will remain in effect until December 31, 2026.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this resolution.
