AGENDA ITEM REPORT

TITLE:

title

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR DESIGNEE, TO RENEW THE ATTACHED MUTUAL AID AGREEMENT FOR VOLUNTARY COOPERATION AMONG THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF LAW ENFORCEMENT (FDLE) AND PARTICIPATING AGENCIES TO FORM THE MIAMI REGIONAL OPERATIONS CENTER CHILD ABDUCTION RESPONSE TEAM (CART).

body

BACKGROUND:

The “Florida Mutual Aid Act,” contained in Part I, Chapter 23, of the Florida Statutes, permits law enforcement agencies to provide voluntary cooperation and assistance of a routine law enforcement nature across jurisdictional boundaries by entering into a mutual aid agreement. The City of Coconut Creek previously renewed a mutual aid agreement in October 2020, approved by Resolution No 2020-200, to participate in a multi-agency effort known collectively as the Child Abduction Response Team (CART) with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) as the lead agency. The agreement term was set to expire December 31, 2025.

DISCUSSION:

FDLE is under a new administration, and the new administration requires the participating agencies to execute this new agreement with the newly-appointed Commissioner to continue participation in the regional CART. This agreement has changed the name from the South Florida Child Abduction Response Team to the Miami Regional Operations Center Child Abduction Response Team. There are no other changes to this mutual aid agreement, and the agreement expiration remains December 31, 2025.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this resolution.
