A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER OR DESIGNEE TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT FOR PROFESSIONAL SERVICES WITH WALTERS ZACKRIA ASSOCIATES TO DESIGN AN EXPANSION TO THE EXISTING UTILITIES AND ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT BUILDING.

body

BACKGROUND:

The City previously entered into an agreement with Walters Zackria Associates through the Consultants Competitive Negotiation Act (CCNA) RFQ# 11-19-14-10. The project is included in the City’s five year Capital Improvement Program.  In 2009, the Utilities and Engineering Department relocated to its current facility on Johnson Road.  This facility provides 8,000 square feet of space for a total of forty-three employees, Utilities Operations, Transportation & Stormwater, and Engineering.  The Department strives to maintain continuity of service to an expanding customer base and has outgrown the building.  This project is for the construction of a two story building behind the current building, which will meet Category 3 hurricane standards and will be United States Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED Certified. The building will be 8,400 square feet in size, including 4,200 sf of covered parking on the first floor and 4,200 square feet of work space on the second floor.

DISCUSSION:

The City is committed to ensuring continuity of utility services for its residents and businesses. This building addition will house adequately sized conference room, locker room, lunch room, and offices. Once design and permitting is complete the construction is estimated to be completed within a one (1) year timeframe.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends awarding a contract to Walters Zackria Associates, a consulting company on the City’s rotating list, to provide said professional services at an estimated cost of $157,000.00
