BACKGROUND:
In 2009, the Utilities and Engineering Department relocated to its current facility on Johnson Road. This facility provides 7,400 square feet of space for a total of forty-three employees in Utilities Operations, Transportation & Stormwater, and Engineering. The Department strives to maintain continuity of service to an expanding customer base and has outgrown the building. The project is for the construction of an additional structure north of the existing Utilities and Engineering building, which will meet Category 3 hurricane standards, and is included in the City's five year Capital Improvement Program. The City currently has an agreement with Walters Zackria Associates for consulting services selected through the Consultants Competitive Negotiation Act (CCNA) RFQ# 11-19-14-10, which is in effect through October 12, 2016, and the City Commission previously approved a scope of work for the design of a two-story building, which will be referred to as option 1, through Resolution 2015-013. This resolution provides for a revised scope of work with two design options including option 1 previously described and option 2, which consists of a one-story building directly adjacent to the existing Utilities and Engineering building. This resolution will supercede the previous resolution.
DISCUSSION:
The City is committed to ensuring continuity of utility services for its residents and businesses. The building addition will house an adequately sized conference room, locker room, lunch room, and offices.
