BACKGROUND:
Congressman Jared Moskowitz, 23rd Congressional District, has the opportunity to support fifteen (15) applications for federal Community Project Funding in 2024. The City of Coconut Creek is submitting two (2) applications for consideration - Fleet Building Rehabilitation and construction and installation of a Redundant Fiber Optic Ring.
DISCUSSION:
Rehabilitation of the Fleet Building will ensure continued provision of government services, particularly during a disaster. This building services public vehicles that facilitate public services to the residents, businesses, and visitors of Coconut Creek and is in need of renovation to meet the daily operational needs of staff, provide a safe work environment, and ensure resiliency during disasters. The project includes structural hardening, bay door replacement, roof replacement, and installation of solar panels.
The Redundant Fiber Optic Ring will ensure continuity of operations and services during disasters and emergencies. It will provide resilience and redundancy on the current fiber, which connects several City facilities and connects to the City to Coral Springs Dispatch. The proposed Redundant Fiber Optic Ring will connect the City's Government Center Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to Fire Station #113, closing the fiber optic loop, and providing redundancy for these emergency services and operations. If the fiber is accidently damaged by fiber cuts, equipment failure, or malicious attacks, communication will be redirected through the ring to the data center and quickly repaired.
