BACKGROUND:
The School Resource Officer (SRO) Program is established for the purposes set forth in Section 230.2318, Florida Statutes, including assisting in the prevention of juvenile delinquency through programs specifically developed to respond to those factors and conditions that give rise to delinquency.
DISCUSSION:
The City is committed to protecting and serving its residents. The SRO Program is a great benefit to school administration, students, and the community as a whole. The attached agreement provides for twelve (12) police officers to work as SROs in the following Coconut Creek schools: Coconut Creek Elementary (1), Winston Park Elementary (1), Tradewinds Elementary (1), Coconut Creek High (2), Lyons Creek Middle (2), Monarch High (2), Atlantic Technical Center (1), Atlantic Technical College (1), and Dave Thomas Educational Center (1).
The agreement term is August 14, 2023, to August 2026. In the 2023-2024 school year, the City shall receive Ten Thousand, Eight Hundred and Fifteen Dollars and 00/100 Cents ($10,815.00) per SRO per month. In the 2024-2025 school year, the City shall receive Eleven Thousand, Three Hundred Fifty-Five Dollars and 75/100 Cents ($11,355.75) per SRO per month. In the 2025-2026 school year, the City shall receive Eleven Thousand, Nine Hundred and Twenty-Three Dollars and 54/100 Cents ($11,923.54) unless the certified taxable value of property in Broward County on or after July 1, 2025, drops more than five percent (5%) of the taxable value of property from the year 2023 certified taxable value, then the School Board's cost for services provided by the City in the 2025-2026 school year shall be Eleven Thousand, Three Hundred Fifty-Five Dollars and 75/100 Cents ($11,355.75) p...
