A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR DESIGNEE, TO EXECUTE A ONE (1) YEAR EXTENSION WITH CLEAN HARBORS ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES, INC., AMENDMENT NO.1, TO PROVIDE HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION AND DISPOSAL SERVICES PURSUANT TO RFP NO. 06-06-18-11.

body

BACKGROUND:

On May 6, 2018, the City issued RFP No. 06-06-18-11 to retain the services of a qualified and experienced firm to provide household hazardous waste collection and disposal services and other related services.  The City of Coconut Creek is the lead agency for this cooperative contract on behalf of the Southeast Florida Governmental Purchasing Co-operative Group.  This agreement is for a two (2) year period, with the option to renew for two (2) additional two (2) year periods.

In September 2020, the City executed the first extension period per the terms and conditions of the agreement, which will expire in October 2022.  This will be the second and last two (2) year extension of the agreement.

DISCUSSION:

Clean Harbors Environmental Services, Inc. has offered to extend the agreement for two (2) years as per the terms and conditions of the contract.  The initial proposed increase was nineteen percent (19%) for a two (2) year extension or fifteen percent (15%) for a one year extension. Staff negotiated to lower the increase, which resulted in an agreed upon twelve percent (12%) increase for one (1) year.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this resolution.
