BACKGROUND:

Since its inception in 2010, Small Business Saturday has illuminated the significance of supporting small, independently owned businesses across the country. Falling between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, it's a day dedicated to supporting the diverse range of local businesses that help create jobs, boost the economy, and keep communities thriving across the country. This year, Small Business Saturday will be celebrated on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, November 28, 2020.

In 2019, more than 800 mayors and city officials joined together to support Small Business Saturday. Below are some highlights of last year’s efforts:

U.S. consumers reported spending a record high total of an estimated $19.6 billion at independent retailers and restaurants on Small Business Saturday.

On average, for every dollar spent at local small businesses, 67 cents stays in the local community.

95% of consumers who shopped on Small Business Saturday reported the day makes them want to shop or eat at small, independently-owned businesses all year long, not just during the holiday season.
