AGENDA ITEM REPORT
TITLE:
title
A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE FLORIDA INCIDENT-BASED REPORTING SYSTEM (FIBRS) GRANT AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR DESIGNEE, TO EXECUTE THE AGREEMENT WITH FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF LAW ENFORCEMENT (FDLE) FOR USE OF THE GRANT.
body
BACKGROUND:
The City applied for and was awarded the Florida Incident-Based Reporting System Implementation Assistance Program Grant from FDLE in the amount of $7,620. The grant assists with the cost of transitioning to the new system of reporting crime known as the Florida Incident-Based Reporting System (FIBRS).
DISCUSSION:
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will no longer be collecting crime data from their Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) system. As a way to accurately report crime throughout the United States, they are moving to a new system called the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS). In Florida, FDLE is tasked with collecting all the information from the various agencies through their new program called FIBRS and reporting it to the FBI. Once FDLE receives the information, they will report it to the FBI to be released through the NIBRS.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of this resolution.
FISCAL IMPACT:
REVENUES: $ 7,620
EXPENDITURES: $ 7,620
BUDGETED? No
NOTES: The agreement provides for both the acceptance of the grant and the expenditure of funds.
