A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR DESIGNEE, TO EXECUTE THE ATTACHED SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER (SRO) AGREEMENT WITH THE SCHOOL BOARD OF BROWARD COUNTY TO PROVIDE AN SRO AT COCONUT CREEK HIGH SCHOOL FOR A PERIOD COMMENCING JUNE 24, 2019, AND ENDING JULY 25, 2019.

BACKGROUND:
The School Resource Officer (SRO) Program is established for the purposes set forth in Section 230.2318, Florida Statutes, including assisting in the prevention of juvenile delinquency through programs specifically developed to respond to those factors and conditions that give rise to delinquency.
DISCUSSION:
The SRO Program is a great benefit to school administration, students, and the community as a whole. The attached SRO agreement provides for one (1) Coconut Creek police officer to work as an SRO at Coconut Creek High School for a one (1) month period during the extended school year, commencing June 24, 2019, and ending July 25, 2019, for which the City will receive the sum of $6,500 from the School Board.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of this resolution.
