AGENDA ITEM REPORT

TITLE:

title

AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE THE AMENDMENT TO THE SOLAR LEASE AGREEMENT WITH FLORIDA POWER AND LIGHT COMPANY DATED OCTOBER 26, 2017. (SECOND READING) (PUBLIC HEARING)

body

BACKGROUND:

This item was approved on First Reading at the June 27, 2019, City Commission Meeting.

In keeping with its overall mission of sustainability and energy efficiency, the City entered into a Solar Lease Agreement with Florida Power and Light Company (FPL) on October 26, 2017, which was recorded on November 15, 2017, in the Public Records of Broward County, Florida under Instrument Number 114721174 (“Agreement”).  The Agreement provided for the installation of solar canopies at the City’s Recreation Complex parking lot to shade vehicles and generate solar energy at the same time.

DISCUSSION:

The City is committed to providing sustainable energy sources, and this amendment to the Agreement and the associated easement is the last step necessary to effectuate the completion of the solar canopy installation at the City’s Recreation Center. Conveyance of the associated easement will allow FPL to install the underground equipment required for the operation of the solar canopy.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this ordinance.
