A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR DESIGNEE, TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT WITH R.J. SULLIVAN CORP. TO PERFORM CONSTRUCTION SERVICES TO BUILD A REPLACEMENT PUMP BUILDING, INCLUDING ALL INTERNAL UTILITIES AND CONTROLS, AT THE HILTON ROAD WATER STORAGE/REPUMP FACILITY PURSUANT TO BID NO. 01-16-19-11.
body
BACKGROUND:
The drinking water storage/re-pump facility located at 4802 Hilton Road was constructed in 1984. The existing building does not meet the current Florida Building Code, and the original high service pumps and controls are now over 30 years old and have reached the end of their useful life. In addition, the existing diesel-driven emergency generator is being replaced with an energy-efficient generator set.
DISCUSSION:
The City is committed to providing continuity of service, maintaining regulatory compliance, and expansion of necessary utility services for its residential and business customers. The rehabilitation of the Hilton Road Water Storage/Re-pump Facility is necessary to ensure a safe and reliable water supply. This project entails the construction of a new high service pump building within the footprint of the existing building. The replacement building has been designed to meet Category 3 wind load standards and house new high service pumps operated by energy efficient variable-speed controls. The existing standby diesel-driven emergency generator, currently inside the existing building, will be replaced with a new generator housed in an external sound-attenuated enclosure. When completed, the new facility will provide a resilient building to meet fire suppression needs and peak water demands in the service area.
The City received three (3) competitive bids for this construction project. R.J. Sullivan Corp. was the lowest bidder and will provide construction services, which include, but are not limited to, providing a complete and functional pump facility at a contractual cost of $2,469,000.
