title

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR DESIGNEE, TO EXECUTE AN INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT (ILA) WITH THE CITY OF CORAL SPRINGS FOR THE DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION, AND MAINTENANCE OF MEDIAN LANDSCAPE IMPROVEMENTS ALONG STATE ROAD 7 BETWEEN THE SAWGRASS EXPRESSWAY AND CULLUM ROAD/TURTLE CREEK DRIVE.

body

BACKGROUND:

The City has expressed a desire to construct landscape improvements within the medians along State Road 7 between the Sawgrass Expressway and Cullum Road/Turtle Creek Drive. The construction of landscape improvements within the medians will greatly enhance the aesthetics of the City’s heavy traveled western border thoroughfare and tie in nicely with similar improvements that the City constructed within the State Road 7 medians north of the Sawgrass Expressway.

DISCUSSION:

As these medians are adjacent to both the City of Coconut Creek and the City of Coral Springs, staff approached the City of Coral Springs about sharing in the costs of the project. The City of Coral Springs was not interested in sharing in the design/construction costs; however, they did agree to share equally the ongoing maintenance costs upon completion of the project.

The City has budgeted $65,000 in the FY 2019 Budget for design of this project and has also been awarded a $100,000 Florida Department of Transportation Highway Beautification Grant to offset costs associated with the construction.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this resolution.

FISCAL IMPACT:

REVENUES:                                          $ 18,660

EXPENDITURES:                     $ 37,320

BUDGETED?                                          No

NOTES:                     The fiscal impact represents estimated annual maintenance costs based on current contract rates.  Construction Costs will be funded in FY 2020 and supplemented with the aforementioned Highway Beautification Grant.
