BACKGROUND:

The City of Coconut Creek is committed to encouraging sustainable development throughout the City. The City’s vision for the MainStreet Regional Activity Center (RAC) includes incentivizing cutting-edge “green” technologies. Since the creation of the MainStreet RAC, there have been significant changes in the sustainable development industry pertaining to technology and design standards.

DISCUSSION:

In order to research and address all of the changes needed to the City’s Code of Ordinances, the City Commission invoked the Zoning in Progress Doctrine for regulations pertaining to the MainStreet RAC, specifically Sections 13-360 through 13-362, on March 8, 2018. City staff has conducted three workshops with the City Commission and engaged in research to effectuate the goals of the Zoning in Progress; however, more time is needed to sufficiently address the required updates. This Resolution extends the Zoning in Progress previously invoked for an additional period of ninety (90) days or until the relevant amendments to the Land Development Code are adopted by the City Commission, whichever occurs first.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this Resolution.
