A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE USE OF FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF FOUR HUNDRED EIGHTY-FIVE THOUSAND, FOUR HUNDRED THIRTY DOLLARS ($485,430) FOR THE PURCHASE OF RIFLE PLATES, ACTIVE SHOOTER LEG RIGS, MOTOROLA SOFTWARE UPDATE, PORTABLE AND MOBILE RADIOS, DELL LAPTOPS AND TABLETS, POLICE VEHICLES, K-9 FIELD FENCE, SALARIES FOR SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS FOR FISCAL YEAR 2019, AND AUTHORIZING THE USE OF LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS ($6,000) TO PROVIDE A DONATION TO THE POLICE EXPLORER POST.

BACKGROUND:
Please see the attached memo from Chief Albert Arenal to City Manager Mary Blasi, explaining the request to purchase items in the amount of $485,430 and to provide a donation to the Police Explorer Post in the amount of $6,000.
DISCUSSION:
The City is committed to protecting its residents and visitors and to the protection of property, while creating a safe environment for all who live, work, or visit our community. The City is also committed to retaining a high-quality workforce and ensuring public safety. The purchase of all these items will enhance the Police Department’s ability to do so. The donation to the Police Explorer Post will assist the Explorers with training and purchasing new equipment and uniforms.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of this Resolution.
