BACKGROUND:

This item was tabled at the September 13, 2018, City Commission Meeting.

The Florida Building Code, Broward County Amendments, includes regulations related to storm shutter placement during hurricane season.  Specifically, these regulations require removal of such devices that impede required egress, light, and ventilation within 15 days of termination of hurricane watches and warnings by the National Weather Service.

DISCUSSION:

As this is a matter that addresses the health, safety, and welfare of our residents, it is appropriate that the regulations be incorporated into Chapter 6 of the City of Coconut Creek Code of Ordinances, “Buildings and Building Regulations.”  Incorporation of these regulations within the City’s Code will provide for the ability to more effectively enforce these regulations as necessary.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this Ordinance.
