BACKGROUND:

This item was approved on First Reading at the July 12, 2018, City Commission Meeting.

Section 171.044, Florida Statutes, provides a procedure for voluntary annexation. The City, as the owner of a parcel of land located at 4250 NW 74 Street, Coconut Creek, Florida, 33073, currently situated in unincorporated Broward County, has submitted a Petition for Voluntary Annexation, which will be considered by the City Commission to annex the parcel of land into the City of Coconut Creek municipal boundaries. The Broward County Legislative Delegation has established a goal of annexing all unincorporated areas of the County into a suitable municipality. Such parcel of land is contiguous to the current boundaries of the City.

DISCUSSION:

The City purchased the parcel of land with the intention of expanding the existing park and recreation areas in the north end of the City. As all of the requirements pursuant to Section 171.044, Florida Statutes, have been met for voluntary annexation, the City desires to proceed with annexing the land into the City’s municipal boundaries.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this Ordinance.
