BACKGROUND:
The City owns and operates 57 wastewater lift stations in its conveyance system. All lift stations include a wet well where sewage is collected and then discharged at the Broward County wastewater treatment plant through a series of pipe networks. The conveyance system also uses more than 3,000 maintenance access structures (a.k.a. manholes) to manage sewage. Both wet wells and maintenance access structures operate in a highly corrosive environment where constant rehabilitation is necessary. Rehabilitation work is part of the City’s Capital Improvement Program.
DISCUSSION:
The City received two (2) competitive bids for this rehabilitation work. The lowest responsive bidder was South Florida Utilities, Inc., bidding at $212,000. Work is anticipated to begin in April 2018 based on inspection reports.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of this Resolution.
