A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY MANAGER, OR DESIGNEE, TO EXECUTE A CASH SECURITY AGREEMENT WITH BROWARD COUNTY IN THE AMOUNT OF $71,667 FOR WORK TO BE PERFORMED WITHIN BROWARD COUNTY RIGHT-OF-WAY FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE RECLAIMED WATER MAIN EXTENSION ON LYONS ROAD FROM WILES ROAD NORTH TO HILTON ROAD.

body

BACKGROUND:

The City is committed to expand the reclaimed water distribution system, and this project will extend the reclaimed water main from the Wiles Road/Lyons Road intersection along Lyons Road to Hilton Road for irrigation of medians. In 2016, the City obtained a grant from the South Florida Water Management District for $300,000 towards this project. In 2017, the City entered into an Interlocal Agreement with Broward County to share the cost of this project in the amount of $200,000. This project supports the Broward County Integrated Water Resources Plan, which calls for Ocean Outfall Elimination by the year 2025.

DISCUSSION:

Broward County is requiring a cash security for that portion of the reclaimed water main extension to be constructed within the County’s right-of-way along Lyons Road from Wiles Road to Hilton Road. The cash security will be held by the County during the construction and then for one (1) year following the completion of the project. There will be no administrative security release fee since this is a water project. Funding will come from the Utilities Enterprise Fund-Capital Spending.

Staff recommends approval of this Resolution.
