A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR DESIGNEE, TO APPROVE A CHANGE ORDER IN THE AMOUNT OF $64,542.50 TO MBR CONSTRUCTION, INC. FOR RESURFACING OF THE EXISTING PARKING LOT AND INSTALLATION OF NEW CURBING AT WINDMILL PARK ASSOCIATED WITH THE WINDMILL PARK IMPROVEMENT PROJECT.

body

BACKGROUND:

The City Commission approved the award of a contract to MBR Construction, Inc. (Bid No. 09-21-16-11) to construct improvements at Windmill Park. Some of the improvements include the addition of a new parking lot and the paving of an existing grass parking lot. However, the plans and specifications only included resealing of the pavement and did not address improving the existing asphalt parking lot, which is in very poor condition, nor did it address damaged and non-compliant curbing issues.  To that end, staff requested, and the City Commission approved, additional funding in the amount of $80,000 in the Fiscal Year 2018 Budget for the purpose of addressing these issues.

DISCUSSION:

Resurfacing of the existing asphalt parking lot and installation of new curbing will provide a code compliant and enhanced appearance throughout the park while extending the useful life of the existing asphalt surface.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this Resolution.
