AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CITY'S CODE OF ORDINANCES, BY AMENDING CHAPTER 9, "FIRE PREVENTION AND PROTECTION," TO PROVIDE FOR UPDATED REGULATIONS AND FEES. (SECOND READING)(PUBLIC HEARING)

body
BACKGROUND:
This item was approved on First Reading at the December 14, 2017, City Commission Meeting.
Chapter 9 of the City's Code of Ordinances was adopted to improve public safety by promoting the control of fire hazards and other emergencies. The Chapter was last updated in 2008 and some of the laws, regulations, codes, and standards referred to in the Chapter have been updated or amended since that time. Each section of Chapter 9 was reviewed and amended, or added as needed, to allow the City to continue to set forth standards for compliance and improved public safety.
DISCUSSION:
The City Commission has a significant interest in protecting the public from fire hazards and other emergencies by providing rules and regulations in Chapter 9 of the City's Code of Ordinances. The first section will adopt relevant laws, regulations, codes, and standards to prescribe regulations for fire prevention and control and to provide for enforcement authority. Section 9-44 serves to articulate the City's adoption of the KNOX brand access controls, which are currently being used. All fee schedules are combined into Section 9-50. Section 9-46 articulates the use of outdoor cooking devices in multi-story, multi-resident buildings into one section. Section 9-52 is adopted to provide the City with a means to recover costs associated with the removal, mitigation, or abating of some Hazardous Materials. Section 9-53 has been added to provide for an appeals process of decisions made in relation to Chapter 9.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of this Ordinance.
FISCAL IMPACT: N/A
