TITLE:

title

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY MANAGER, OR DESIGNEE, TO EXECUTE THE ATTACHED INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT WITH BROWARD COUNTY TO SHARE THE COST OF A RECLAIMED WATER MAIN EXTENSION ON WILES ROAD AND LYONS ROAD.

body

BACKGROUND:

The City has identified reclaimed water as an alternative water supply source for its service areas, which is a major component of the City’s Green Plan and the Reclaimed Water Master Plan. The City has a reclaimed water main connection with Broward County’s reclaimed water metering station at Wiles Road and NW 39th Avenue. Design plans have been completed to extend the reclaimed water main west along Wiles Road to Lyons Road and then south to Cullum Road for future expansion in the MainStreet Project Area, and north for irrigation of medians. In 2016, the City obtained a grant from the South Florida Water Management District for $300,000 towards this project. The cost estimate of this project is $1.3 million. As part of the MainStreet DRI, the ultimate developer of the John’s property has agreed to pay the prorated cost of this offsite reclaimed line as a condition of development approvals during construction of uses requiring irrigation water.

DISCUSSION:

The City applied for cost-share funding from Broward County for this reclaimed water main extension through the Integrated Water Resource Plan (IWRP). The IWRP approved the City’s application to provide the City with cost-share funding up to $200,000.
