body
BACKGROUND:
The Florida Department of Health works to protect, promote, and improve the health of all people in Florida through integrated state, county, and community efforts. As part of their efforts, the Florida Department of Health sponsors the Healthiest Weight Florida Initiative to bring together state agencies, not-for-profit organizations, businesses, and entire communities to help Florida’s children and adults make consistent, informed choices about healthy eating and active living. The Department recognizes communities who support these health initiatives through the State Surgeon General’s Healthy Weight Community Champion Recognition Program.
On February 21, 2017, the Florida Department of Health announced that the City of Coconut Creek was named a 2017 Healthy Weight Community Champion. This is in recognition of the City’s efforts to positively impact the health environment of the community by increasing opportunities for physical activity and encouraging better nutrition. This is the third year the City has received this distinction.
