BACKGROUND:
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) established the Popular Annual Financial Reporting (PAFR) Awards Program in 1991. It was established to encourage and assist state and local governments to extract financial information from their comprehensive annual financial report to produce high quality popular annual financial reports specifically designed to be readily accessible and easily understandable to the general public and other interested parties without a background in public finance and then to recognize individual governments that are successful in achieving that goal.
This award is a prestigious national award, recognizing conformance with the highest standards for preparation of state and local government popular annual financial reports. In order to receive the Award of Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting, a government unit must publish a PAFR, which contents conform to program standards of creativity, presentation, understandability, and reader appeal. The PAFR was included in the July edition of Coconut Creek Life Magazine delivered to each residential property in the City. This is the 9th consecutive year that the City has received this award.
