BACKGROUND:

After the end of the Resource Recovery System, Coconut Creek joined with the cities of Coral Springs, Fort Lauderdale, Pompano Beach, and Tamarac to provide regional household hazardous waste events periodically at a site within each community.  Residents from each community are allowed to participate in each City’s events.

DISCUSSION:

The City of Lauderdale Lakes desires to join the partnership.  Currently, there are eleven events throughout these cities annually available to Coconut Creek residents to dispose of household hazardous waste and electronics.  Each City holds two events except for Fort Lauderdale, which holds three.  The addition of Lauderdale Lakes will provide at least one additional event available to residents.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of the First Amendment to the Interlocal Agreement between the City of Coconut Creek and the cities of Coral Springs, Fort Lauderdale, Pompano Beach, and Tamarac to add the City of Lauderdale Lakes to the partnership.
