BACKGROUND:

 

Please see attached memos from Acting Captain Ryan Marken and Chief of Police Albert Arenal to City Manager Mary Blasi explaining the request to purchase items with federal and local law enforcement trust funds in the total amount of $309,108.

DISCUSSION:

The City is committed to protecting its residents and visitors and the protection of property, while creating a safe environment for all who live in, work in, or visit our community.  Purchasing these items will enhance the Police Department’s ability to do so.   Complete backup on these items is located in the Commission Office and with the City Clerk.  The City is also committed to retaining a high-quality workforce and ensuring public safety. The Annual Training Conference will provide highly beneficial training to Coconut Creek Police Department staff who attend. 

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends authorization of the use of federal law enforcement trust funds in the amount of $306,608 to purchase these items and local law enforcement trust funds in the amount of $2,500.

NOTES:  There is $1,092,980.07 available in the Federal Law Enforcement Trust Fund Account and $42,741.80 available in the Local Law Enforcement Trust Fund Account #6361-8100.
