BACKGROUND:

The School Resource Officer (SRO) Program is established for the purposes set forth in Section 230.2318, Florida Statutes, including assistance in the prevention of juvenile delinquency through programs specifically developed to respond to those factors and conditions that give rise to delinquency.                       

DISCUSSION:

The City is committed to protecting and serving its residents. The SRO Program is a great benefit to school administration, students, and the community as a whole.  The attached School Resource Officer Agreement provides for eight (8) police officers to work as SROs in the following Coconut Creek schools: Coconut Creek Elementary, Winston Park Elementary, Tradewinds Elementary, Lyons Creek Middle, Coconut Creek High (2), Monarch High, and Atlantic Technical Center.  The Agreement is for a one (1) year period, beginning October 1, 2016, and ending September 30, 2017.  The City will receive $46,252 from the School Board for each of the SROs.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of the attached Agreement.
