BACKGROUND:

The State of Health and Wellness Pledge was developed by the FRPA, the Florida Department of Health, and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to address nutrition and physical activity standards through education and programming initiatives.  This Pledge is the beginning effort to more deeply position Parks and Recreation agencies as a solution to Florida’s health and nutrition challenges.

DISCUSSION:

By committing to the Pledge, the City of Coconut Creek commits to address health and nutrition standards in our community and assist in making Florida the healthiest state in the country.

Highlights of the State of Health and Wellness Pledge include the following standards for Parks and Recreation agencies:

                     Supports a well-connected community that allows for active transportation;

                     Creates an environment of fitness, physical activity, and fun while maintaining a safe and positive atmosphere; and

                     Works as a connector between the community and locally grown food needs.
