A RESOLUTION SPONSORING CERTAIN NAMED NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS OR CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS THAT PROVIDE SERVICES TO CITY RESIDENTS.

BACKGROUND:
In September, 2012, there was an agreement by the Commission for staff to present a Resolution sponsoring certain named non-profit charities or organizations that provide services to City residents to be updated during the annual budget process.
The three (3) requirements for non-profit charities or organizations to be included on the list are:
1) The organization must have a non-profit certification with tax exempt status;
2) The organization (or sponsored event) serves the Coconut Creek residents;
3) The organization is not a party to discriminatory activity.
DISCUSSION:
The City is committed to allowing non-profit charities or organizations to apply to receive special event assistance grants through the Special Event Assistance Program two (2) times per year.
RECOMMENDATION:
This resolution gives staff the authority to approve grants or in-kind services of $1,000 or less to qualified non-profit organizations that have not been approved by this resolution. Staff also recommends adding the Broward League of Cities and the South Florida Academy to the list of non-profit organizations to sponsor approved by this proposed resolution.
