title
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR DESIGNEE, TO SUBMIT TWO (2) FEDERAL TRANSIT ADMINISTRATION (FTA) GRANT APPLICATIONS FOR THE PURPOSE OF OBTAINING FUNDING FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF APPROXIMATELY SIXTY (60) AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT (ADA)-COMPLIANT BUS STOP PADS FOR THE COMMUNITY BUS ROUTE AND TO PURCHASE AN ADA-COMPLIANT TROLLEY FOR THE BUTTERFLY EXPRESS ROUTE.

body
BACKGROUND:
The City recently received notification from Broward County Transit that all community bus stops that are not ADA-compliant must either be brought into compliance or removed from the community bus route. There are approximately sixty (60) bus stops along the community bus routes that are not currently ADA-compliant. Additionally, the City does not have a backup trolley for the Butterfly Express, which currently has approximately 150,000 miles on it and is beginning to experience mechanical problems on a more frequent basis. To that end, it will be necessary to purchase an additional trolley to avoid possible delays and/or disruption to service.
DISCUSSION:

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has a competitive grant program that provides funding for the aforementioned project/purchase with match requirements of up to 20% depending on the project. The grant requires support for the project/purchase and a commitment from the City to meet the financial match obligation.

NOTE: This item was originally scheduled for the March 26, 2020, City Commission Meeting, which was cancelled due to the COVID-19 event. The City has already submitted the grant applications, which were due on March 31, 2020, as FTA was not extending the submission period as of that date. To that end, this resolution of support is in reference to those grant applications, which have already been submitted.
