DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION: CURBSIDE COLLECTION FOR RECYCLABLE MATERIALS.

BACKGROUND:
At the April 23, 2026, City Commission Workshop, staff presented options to the Commission on the future Solid Waste and Recycling Collection Contract. As part of the presentation, staff presented two (2) options for the frequency (weekly or every other week) of collection of Single Stream recyclables. Pricing for each option was also presented. The City Commission requested additional data from Republic Services, regarding the amount of contamination between the two (2) curbside recycling options.
At the May 14, 2026, City Commission Meeting, the Commission further discussed options for the frequency of curbside recyclable materials collection. At the meeting, Republic discussed data associated with every other week collection, which often occurs with other program changes, making contamination data unquantifiable. The City Commission continued discussing their preference related to the number of recycling pick-ups and pricing.
Additional discussion will include the following recycling options and associated pricing:
1. Weekly curbside single stream recycling;
2. Every other week curbside single stream recycling;
3. Weekly collection of curbside corrugated cardboard; and
4. No recycling.
