body

BACKGROUND:

Since 2016, Niagara Bottling, LLC has partnered with the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) to revitalize parks and outdoor community spaces across the United States through grants offered by its charitable division, Niagara Cares, and the Perk Your Park Contest, which provides seventy-five thousand dollars ($75,000) in grant funding for park improvements that advance connection to nature and sustainability outcomes for communities. The NRPA manages the administration of the grant program.

DISCUSSION:

The City of Coconut Creek took part, along with nine (9) other cities, in the Perk Your Park Contest, which took place August 1 through September 12, 2022, for improvements to Coco Point Park located at 4870 NW 6 Street. The top three (3) cities in the public voting campaign each receive a seventy-five thousand dollar ($75,000) grant for park improvements that advance connection to nature and sustainability. If the City of Coconut Creek is one (1) of the top three (3) cities, the grant will fund nature-related improvements at Coco Point Park, including butterfly pollinators/gardens, nature education QR codes, concrete game tables, seating, native animal accents, exercise equipment, and art. The attached proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with NRPA is required to receive funding.
