BACKGROUND:
In 2019, the City of Coconut Creek was awarded a one million dollar ($1,000,000) Broward Redevelopment Program (BRP) grant. The recognized project included two (2) components: land acquisition and public improvements.
The public improvement component of the project received total funding in the amount of six hundred forty thousand dollars ($640,000). The public improvements consist of improving a multi-purpose path on the north side of Hillsboro Boulevard, connecting the existing path in front of the Broadstone residential development to the Helene Klein Natural Area, located at the northwest corner of Hillsboro Boulevard and Lyons Road.
For reference, in January of 2020, the City Commission approved a work authorization for Carnahan Proctor ("Consultant") to provide surveying services and prepare plans for this project. The Consultant and City staff worked very closely as plans were being prepared, and we actively participated in outside agency coordination. Because the project area primarily falls within Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) right-of-way and portions meander in and out of Broward County preserves, such coordination with governmental agencies became a critical component of the work effort. As plans were shared with these agencies during the design process, it became apparent that the amount of jurisdictional coordination was greatly underestimated.
