A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE THE FIRST AMENDMENT TO THE INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT WITH BROWARD COUNTY FOR THE PURPOSE OF CONSTRUCTING SIDEWALK IMPROVEMENTS WITHIN THE SAMPLE ROAD RIGHT-OF-WAY (STATE ROAD 834), ASSOCIATED WITH THE SURTAX-FUNDED MUNICIPAL TRANSPORTATION PROJECT KNOWN AS  SAMPLE ROAD IMPROVEMENTS (COCO-016).

body

BACKGROUND:

The Broward County Penny for Transportation (Surtax) Mobility Advancement Program (MAP) awarded grant funding to the City for the design and construction of the Sample Road Shared-Use Pathway project, which was approved by the City Commission through Resolution No. 2023-136 on August 24, 2023, authorizing the City to enter into an Interlocal Agreement (ILA) with Broward County for project funding.

The surtax project, known as Sample Road Improvements (COCO-016), consists of the widening of sidewalks on Sample Road from Lyons Road to Tradewinds Park’s entrance, including improved accessibility to Tradewinds Park, as well as bus shelters. In 2024, the City successfully completed the design phase of the project, secured all required permits from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), the right-of-way owner, and is now prepared to start the construction phase.

DISCUSSION:

In order to secure funding and start the construction phase of the project, the parties desire to amend the ILA. This First Amendment to the ILA includes construction documents, deliverables for Phase 2, and an extension of the term of the agreement.
