title

A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE CITY OF COCONUT CREEK’S 2025 STATE LEGISLATIVE AGENDA.

body

BACKGROUND:

The City of Coconut Creek works with its State Lobbyist, Ericks Consulting, each year to create a State Legislative Agenda to be submitted to the Broward County Legislative Delegation, Broward County Board of County Commissioners, Broward League of Cities, Florida League of Cities, and the City’s State representatives, Senator Tina Polsky and Representative Christine Hunschofsky.

DISCUSSION:

Staff communicates throughout the year with the City’s State Lobbyist, Ericks Consulting, and our State representatives on State legislative issues impacting the City.  Based on these communications, a public workshop was held at 5:30 p.m. on January 9, 2025, to review the proposed State Legislative Agenda with the City Commission,  State lobbyists, Senator Polsky, and Representative Hunschofsky.  The State Legislative Agenda, attached as Exhibit “A,” outlines the City’s Proposed State legislative priorities for the upcoming year.  The highlighted yellow text in Exhibit “A” represents updates from the 2024 State Legislative Agenda, including but not limited to:

New items in the Legislative Agenda - Ad Valorem Taxes; Sovereign Immunity Caps; and Affordable Senior Healthcare.

Items removed from the Legislative Agenda and/or added to the Watch List - Public Records Exemptions; State of Florida Gaming Compact with the Seminoles; and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this resolution.
