TITLE:

title

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR DESIGNEE, TO APPROVE A CHANGE ORDER IN THE AMOUNT OF $22,083.76 TO KILOWATT ELECTRIC COMPANY FOR ADDITIONAL ELECTRICAL WORK FOR THE CITY HALL LIGHTING IMPROVEMENT PROJECT.

body

BACKGROUND:

The City Commission approved Resolution No. 2024-016 on January 25, 2024, which authorized an agreement with Kilowatt Electric Company to provide electrical services for the City.  The City Commission approved the replacement of existing lighting fixtures in City Hall with new high efficiency light emitting diode (LED) fixtures during the Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26) budget approval process.  A purchase order was issued to Kilowatt Electric Company in the amount of $42,969.66 for this project.

DISCUSSION:

After the installation of the new LED fixtures within City Hall, a foot-candle survey was conducted to obtain illumination levels to determine if there were areas within the building where the light levels exceeded design standards or were below Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations. The survey revealed that several areas throughout City Hall were lit slightly above industry standards. Kilowatt Electric Company provided the City with a change order proposal in the amount of $22,083.76 to install dimmer switches where appropriate and to adjust the light lumens in the fixtures where possible.

Commission approval is required because the combination of the original project cost and this change order request exceeds $50,000.00. Staff has reviewed the proposal and determined that the proposed costs are fair, reasonable, and appropriate for this scope of work.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this resolution.
