BACKGROUND:

Since 2006, students and teachers have been making a difference in the eco health of our planet through the Lexus Eco Challenge, a national environmental education program and challenge.   Student teams tackle environmental issues related to land, water, air, and climate. They create practical solutions for environmental issues and compete for prizes.

The “Food Miles Matter” team of North Broward Preparatory School addressed the issue of global warming caused by emissions from food transport vehicles. With the help of the entire 6^th grade class, herbs were grown on campus and donated to the school cafeteria to reduce the miles used for food deliveries. The team’s grand prize earned their school $30,000 in scholarships and grants.
