BACKGROUND:
Florida Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 2 (FL-TF2) is a specialized emergency response team comprised of personnel from fire rescue agencies across Florida. Members are selected for their advanced technical expertise, extensive training, and proven ability to respond to large-scale natural disasters and major emergencies both within the United States and abroad.
After two (2) devastating earthquakes struck Venezuela, Battalion Chief Ryan Nemesek and Captain Francisco Herrera were activated by the U.S. State Department and deployed from South Florida on a military flight as part of the FL-TF2. During the mission, they operated in dangerously unstable, collapsed structures to search for, extricate, and provide medical care to trapped victims, contributing to multiple successful rescues.
The City of Coconut Creek proudly recognizes Battalion Chief Ryan Nemesek and Captain Francisco Herrera for their commitment to public service and dedication to helping those in need far beyond our local community. Their actions exemplify the highest traditions of the fire service and bring honor to Coconut Creek Fire Rescue, the City of Coconut Creek, and the State of Florida.
