BACKGROUND:
This item was approved on First Reading at the January 23, 2020, City Commission Meeting.
Two points related to additional police detail and a solar installation were raised during the meeting. The City's Police Department has confirmed that no additional patrol details are provided at two existing 7-Eleven facilities in the City. Additional police details for the current project are not warranted at this time. The applicant's attorney has provided the following response related to a solar installation. 7-Eleven does not have an option to integrate solar panels into the energy management systems for their stores; however, 7-Eleven does have sustainability programs that have a major focus in reducing its impact on the environment. Part of 7-Eleven's sustainability program has an aggressive goal that it established in 2015 to reduce its energy footprint in stores and offices by 20% by the year 2025. 7-Eleven has taken big steps by strategically investing in several energy and sustainability measures that increase efficiency and reduce waste and resource consumption. 7-Eleven implemented several innovative measures like LED lighting, energy management systems and high-efficiency HVAC units within its new stores and will include these in the Coconut Creek store as well. As a result, 7-Eleven has reduced annual CO2 emissions by an estimated 300,000 metric tons and decreased annual electricity use by 21%.
