BACKGROUND:

The ESGR’s Patriot Award is a coveted award approved by the Department of Defense that honors supervisors and bosses for support provided directly to the nominating service member. This award reflects the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide range of measures, including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leave of absences, if needed.

Florida Army National Guard 2nd Lieutenant Andrea Calderon submitted the nomination for her three (3) supervisors. They went above and beyond during her deployment to the west coast of Florida to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Ian last September. Their support provided 2nd Lieutenant Calderon with a sense of ease during her two-week deployment. It is the latest example of the Coconut Creek Police Department’s long-standing commitment to supporting its active reservists and veterans.
