BACKGROUND:
The Crescent Creek Homeowners Association is requesting $20,000 in grant funds from the Neighborhood Enhancement Grant (NEG) Program. This program provides funding assistance for projects that promote a stronger, safer, and more sustainable community. The proposed project seeks to enhance community aesthetics and sustainability by revising the Landscape Master Plan according to "Right Tree, Right Place" principles. The project is eligible under the multi-phase design project category of the NEG Program Guidelines. The Crescent Creek community is located on the north side of Hillsboro Boulevard, with access from NW 39 Avenue.
DISCUSSION:
The City is committed to enhancing community aesthetics and promoting a positive environmental image; this grant project supports and advances this strategic initiative. The applicant has proposed a multi-phase, neighborhood-wide landscape project. Phase I will focus on designing a new landscape plan, while future phases will focus on plan implementation, including tree installation. The original landscape materials are no longer compatible with surrounding areas due to their size and growth habits.
The applicant intends to procure Gardner and Semler Landscape Architecture, Inc. to assess the current conditions and develop a new Street Tree Landscape Master Plan. The total cost of Phase I design services is $22,800, with grant reimbursement of up to $20,000, which does not require a matching contribution per the grant guidelines.
