A RESOLUTION RESCINDING RESOLUTION NO. 2020-130 AND THE  AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF COCONUT CREEK AND FLORIDA POWER & LIGHT (FPL) DATED JUNE 25, 2020; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR DESIGNEE, TO EXECUTE THE ATTACHED AGREEMENTS IN ITS PLACE TO PROVIDE FOR THE INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE OF ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATIONS ON VARIOUS CITY PROPERTIES.

body

BACKGROUND:

The City of Coconut Creek approved Resolution No. 2020-130 on June 25, 2020, to provide for an agreement between the City of Coconut Creek and Florida Power & Light Company (hereinafter “FPL”) to enhance City-owned property through the installation of Electric Vehicle (hereinafter “EV”) charging stations on City property, namely, City Hall, the Recreation Center, and Windmill Park.

DISCUSSION:

FPL legal counsel has determined that three separate agreements are necessary (one for each location).  The revised agreements are included as Exhibit “1,” Exhibit “2,” and Exhibit “3,” including location maps. In keeping with its overall mission of sustainability and energy efficiency, the City desires to include the “conspicuous display of green” to charge electric vehicles on City-owned property. The proposed agreement provides for use of EV charging stations at no cost for a term of seven (7) years. The City is responsible for the cost of the electricity to power the chargers.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this resolution.

FISCAL IMPACT:

REVENUES:                     $ 0

EXPENDITURES:                      Costs associated with providing electricity.

BUDGETED?                     No

NOTES:  Final locations determined as noted in the agreements necessitated three separate agreements by FPL legal counsel.
