BACKGROUND:

On May 15, 2019, the City, through former City Manager Mary Blasi, entered into an option purchase agreement to purchase the real property located at West Hillsboro Boulevard, Coconut Creek, Florida 33073 after obtaining approval from the Commission to negotiate with the seller at the May 9, 2019, Commission Meeting.  On July 11, 2019, the City Commission approved Ordinance No. 2019-011 approving the purchase of the subject property.  The property was acquired with the understanding that the City would be working with the adjacent property owner of the former Deenie’s Hideaway site to establish a vision consistent with the Broward Redevelopment Grant for the Hillsboro Boulevard Redevelopment and the City’s Hillsboro Boulevard Corridor visioning session with the Commission, and that the property would be sold and/or transferred to the adjacent property owner for a more viable redevelopment project.  The City is eligible to be reimbursed for the acquisition costs so long as it remains on the tax rolls and is part of a redevelopment project consistent with the City’s grant application.  Reimbursement can occur when the facility is open and operational.
