A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING A SCHOOL SAFETY GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $40,000; AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR DESIGNEE, TO EXECUTE THE END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT WITH SCHOOL SAFETY GRANT, LLC FOR THE USE OF SCHOOL SAFETY GRANT SOFTWARE.

body

BACKGROUND:

The City applied for and was awarded a School Safety Grant in the amount of $40,000.  The grant allows for the purchase of an Alert System software that will enable the Police Department to connect to public schools, charter schools, private schools, houses of worship, and meeting places that applied for and have also been awarded the grant. The Coconut Creek and Coral Springs Police Departments were the first agencies awarded the grant. Currently, Coral Springs Charter is already connected to the Coral Springs Police Department via this system. Junior Achievement of South Florida has applied for the grant, and staff is working with North Broward Preparatory School at this time.

DISCUSSION:

This agreement allows for police personnel, through the Alert System software, to have access to real time (live) video feeds, floor plans, and alarm information of public schools, charter schools, private schools, houses of worship, and meeting places that applied for and have also been awarded the grant.  This access allows police personnel in our Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) to provide officers responding to active situations with real time intelligence so that they can quickly be resolved.  It also allows police personnel access to the locations’ electronic locks and their Public Address (PA) System, through the software, when necessary.

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends approval of this resolution.
