BACKGROUND:
The current Interlocal Agreement (ILA) with Broward County for community shuttle service will expire on September 30, 2019. The City of Coconut Creek has determined that it is in the best interest of the residents of the City to continue to provide transportation services to the community with a two-route program with four buses in service. By providing this service to the residents, it allows them to travel within our City and also gives them access to other forms of public transit services outside the City limits.
As one of the benefits of the recently-approved transportation surtax, Broward County will now provide $712,993.28 in funding for the 2019-2020 fiscal year for the operation of the City’s two bus routes. This represents a significant increase from $15.00 to $52.48 per bus service hour. The term of the agreement is through September 30, 2022, and may be extended for up to two (2) additional one (1) year renewal periods.
DISCUSSION:
This ILA provides for a cooperative effort between the County and the City of Coconut Creek to provide local transportation services throughout the City for the residents. This agreement now fully funds the North and South Route Community Shuttles.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of this resolution.
